Director Verification

October 2025

What is Director Verification?

From 18 November 2025, new mandatory ID checks come into effect under the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Act (2023)

These checks are designed to increase transparency around company ownership and control and help prevent fraud, money laundering and other types of economic crime.

Who needs to verify?

Under the new roles, the following individuals need to verify their identify:

  • All LTD Company Directors – Every director of a UK limited company, whether newly appointed or existing, must complete ID verification.
  • People with Significant Control over a LTD Company (PSCs) – Anyone who has significant influence or control over a company, such as shareholders owning more than 25% of shares, or those who can appoint/remove directors.
  • Anyone filing on behalf of a LTD company – This includes accountants, company secretaries, or other authorised representatives who submit documents to Companies House.

What do you need to do?

All relevant individuals for your company must complete a one-time ID verification via Companies House which involves uploading a valid form of ID.

Once verified, you’ll receive a unique personal code which is needed for subsequent filings.

How do I do it?

We can handle this for you for a small, one-off fee as we are registered as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider.

For us to do it, we’ll just need:

  1. A photo of your passport
  2. A selfie

Or if you complete the check yourself, we will need you to send us your code so we can file on your behalf.

Why it matters

Without verification, Companies House will not accept future filings (e.g. Annual Accounts, Confirmation Statements) after 18 November 2025.

Non compliance could also mean legal or financial penalties.
